Born and raised in Trinidad & Tobago, Sherwin comes from a rich lineage of faith and
ministry. His mother, Rev. Merle Gardner, is a pastor; his uncle, Kennedy Patterson, is a
celebrated gospel artist; and his grandfather, Ivan Patterson, was a revered Bishop in the
New Testament Church. Sherwin’s musical journey began at just five years old, singing in
churches, and by 17, he released his debut album, Power in the Name, marking the start of
an extraordinary career.
Sherwin revolutionised Caribbean gospel music by fearlessly fusing reggae, soca, and
dancehall rhythms with powerful gospel messages. At a time when such styles were often
dismissed as secular, Sherwin’s innovative approach became a catalyst for change, inspiring
countless youth to embrace Christianity and transforming the landscape of gospel music in
the Caribbean and beyond.
His impact on gospel music has been recognized with numerous awards, including nine
Marlin Awards (the Caribbean’s premier gospel accolades) and back-to-back wins as Gospel
Songwriter of the Year at the COTT Awards (Copyright Organization of Trinidad & Tobago).
He has also been honored as Caribbean Artist of the Year at both the Kingdom Choice
Awards and the Maranatha Awards USA, solidifying his status as a gospel icon.

legends such as CeCe Winans, Israel Houghton, Jonathan Nelson, Papa San, Todd
